In this episode, your hosts.... Savannah and Afton take over? They introduce your regular hosts (and their spouses) turned guests, Parker and Brandon to help them create their characters (PC's) for "The One Ring" 2nd Edition TTRPG for the upcoming one-shot actual play session! This system's character creation involves a little more bookkeeping and a little less dice rolling to help stay true to the lore of Middle-earth. In this episode, your hosts Parker and Brandon introduce us a brand new system: The One Ring 2nd Edition (by Free League Publishing) and the world of Tolkien's Middle-earth, particularly the northern regions where dwell hobbits, men, elves, and... dark things in long forgotten ruins. Parker takes the opportunity to flex his Tolkien knowledge a bit and begins giving his initial thoughts, expectations, and ultimate hopes for the system. They discuss the setting, dice mechanics, character options, and the unique system mechanics regarding Endurance, Hope, and Shadow... In Part 2 of our Dungeons and Dragons Trivial Pursuit episode, your host Parker, and guests Matt and Derrick continue to showcase their knowledge of D&D history, lore, and also the lack thereof; proving that even the most experienced Dungeon Master's don't know half of what's been published... and that they don't need too. It's also here that the champion of the wedges is declared! Check out both Derrick's podcast 'How Not to DM' (@hownottodm) and Matt's podcast 'Twenty Sides' (@twentysidespod)! Your host Parker really wanted to play his unopened gift from Christmas: "Dungeons and Dragons Trivial Pursuit" Ultimate Edition. So naturally he invited Derrick from the podcast "How Not To DM" and Matt from a D&D actual-play podcast "Twenty Sides" to join him in a leisure game. It was anything but leisure. In this episode you'll hear Derrick and Matt introduce themselves and their fantastic podcasts, how the questions started off easy until Parker shuffled the deck, and their struggle to answer any questions regarding both in-game lore and real-world history (they legit got hard lol). Part 2 will come soon and reveal who had the most wedges in the end! In this episode that wraps up their exploration of the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG, your hosts Brandon and Parker give their final thoughts as newcomers on the system and their "grade" for each aspect of the game. They discuss their favorite mechanics of the system, how to potentially incorperate those into D&D and other TTRPG systems, and how Parker can't smite spiders to save his life (almost). In this episode, your hosts Brandon and Parker spend some discussing about what it takes to be a Keeper running the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG system, and what is needed to do so. They specifically dive into Brandon's first time running the system with Parker, Savannah, and Pedro as their foundation. Also discussed is that despite the horror aspects of the system, that if enough imagination is used (Rainbows and Ponies??), it can more versatile in setting then one might initial think. You can find 'Nat 1 Nerds' on Facebook and Instagram, as well as at nat1nerdspodcast@gmail.com for comments, questions, clarifications, and even suggestions on what TTRPG system to explore next. In Part Two of this Call of Cthulhu actual-play, Brandon continues as Keeper (GM) in finishing this tale set in Apache Junction, Arizona in the mid-1920's with Parker (as the clergyman Donald), Savannah (the actress Ms. Claire), and Pedro from 'The Storyteller's Tavern' podcast (as the lawyer Jonathan). After an initial look inside the mine, the group discovers raven-like monstrosities inhabiting the mine and manage to escape back to town after Ms. Claire sustained injuries due to Donald's rash-decision making. Once recovered after a week in the local hospital, the group again returns to stop what Donald deems "devils and demons" and the hellish darkness within the haunted shafts. Will they be lucky enough to escape again? Or will they succumb to the horrors within the heart of darkness? After all, the "raven sees all"... Brandon takes the reigns of Keeper (or Game Master) for a Call of Cthulhu one-shot adventure set in the deserts of Apache Junction, Arizona in the mid 1920's. Join the lawyer Jonathan (Pedro), Reverend Donald Dillard (Parker), and Miss Claire (Savannah) as they assist Jonathan in uncovering the mysterious darkness plaguing a newly discovered mine that caused all the miners to die... with the exception of one lone miner gone completely mad. Can they solve the ominous warnings scratched into the rock? (Part Two coming soon!) In this enlightening episode, your hosts Parker and Brandon make their own Call of Cthulhu character/investigator with the help of Pedro from The Storyteller's Tavern podcast! They dive deep into the exact mechanics surrounding the creation of an investigator, how important percentile dice are, and discuss everything on the character sheet. They also create Parker's character, Donald Dillard, step by step... or roll by roll. Hopefully Donald's stats are good enough to keep him more sane then not... if he survives Brandon's one-shot adventure next episode. Pedro is the "forever DM" of the podcast, The Storyteller's Tavern, where they have a Call of Cthulhu actual-play and currant Dungeons and Dragons actual-play adventure.
