Episodes

Big episode this week! First, are you OK? After last week's The Last Of Us episode, Henry starts by askng if you're all OK & why it's OK to NOT be OK. That leads into a chat with writer/director Gary Scullion and Echoes of Darkness, A Star Wars Fan Film. For The Book Club, Megan Haskell drops by to talk about all of her fantasy books & what inspired them. Finally, Henry & Shanclen wrap up by talking about that episode of The Last Of Us (yes, spoilers) & all the announcements that came out of Star Wars Celebration Japan last weekend.
The episode kicks off with Shanclen's Nerdy Navajo News, then Henry welcomes James B. Cox & Caitlin Carver from Call of the Void, a new film available now on digital demand. The Book Club features author Josiah Golojuh and his novel, The Paper Boy. Shanclen returns to close off the show and to tease one of the topics you'll hear on this month's Isues of the Day: Is Ellie right for being mad at Joel in The Last of Us Season Two premiere?
Henry welcomes Mechanical Cake's Jesse Negron to the show this week. Jesse created the world of Modville, an upcoming Southern Gothic graphic novel which also happens to be Ridley Scott's first-ever graphic novel. You'll hear how that came to be. Then, The Book Club returns to the show with author Greg Sorber talking about his Mechhaven book series. The show wraps up with interviews with The King of Kings scriptwriter Rob Edwards and voice actor James Arnold Taylor. The King of Kings is an animated film opening on Friday April 11.
Spring is in the air, so that means...scary movies!? Well, on The Geek Speak Show it does. First, Stephen Cognetti returns to the show to talk about his new movie, 825 Forest Road. It debuts on April 4th exclusively on Shudder and it's NOT a part of the Hell House, LLC franchise. Then, Dan Asma drops by to talk about his episodic analog horror series, The Asma Journals.
Henry welcomes author S.G. Blaise back to the show! S.G. talks about how she came up with The Last Lumenian book series and what attendees will see at this year's The Last Lumenian booth. (# 901) After that, Fraser Coull & Lucy Linger check in to talk about the film they'll be debuting at WonderCon: Faithful: A Scottish fairytale. Finally, in a segment recorded on location at the Comic Book Hideout in Fullerton, Funky Garcia & Young Nate share all the info on the Hideout's annual WonderCon After Party & Sale!
On the first part of this year's Warm-Up To WonderCon episode, Henry is joined by Comic-Con International's Chief Communications & Strategy Officer, David Glanzer. David talks about the Comic-Con Cruise, San Diego Comic-Con debuting a new show in Malaga, whether San Diego Comic-Con got back to normal in 2024 and what to expect at this year's WonderCon. Then, Gary Sassaman joins the Warm-Up to tease his panel: Tales From My Spinner Rack LIVE! The theme this year is The Fantastic Four, so of course Henry & Gary talk about the upcoming movie. *** This year's Warm-Up To WonderCon is a two-parter! Be sure to listen to Part 2! ***
The Geek Speak Show, Vol. 2 returns from a short break with this month's Issues of the Day episode. For the first time in 2025, the entire crew is together! Henry & Shanclen are joined by Geek Off The Street's Marc Pope & Trent Tucker as they discuss what's happening in Geek Culture. The show starts with an announcement that makes Shanclen happy, followed by a discussion on movie studios casting & greenlighting projects according to social media presence rather than talent. In a landscape filled with sequels, prequels, reboots and remakes, where can you find original movies to watch? A Kickstarter just launched for a documentary about the elder abuse experienced by Stan Lee at the end of his life. The guys discuss whether this is truly coming frm someone who cared about Stan & wants to bring this to light...or is it one final cash grab seven years after Stan has been gone?
The episode begins with some info on The Geek Speak Expo, specifically, the location. Then, Henry welcomes composer Trey Toy to the show. Trey talks about the music he composed (along with Trevor Morris) for Netflix's Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2.  The Geek Speak Show will take a short break & return on Wednesday March 19, 2025. Listen to Henry on Geek Off The Street's 4-Year Anniversary episode.
Henry starts the episode with some words about a report concerning Kathleen Kennedy & Lucasfilm...yes, THAT report. He also remembers Roberto Orci, who passed away this week. After Shanclen catches us up on what's happening in Geek Culture, Henry welcomes writer Matthew K. Manning to the show. Matthew talks about his new comic book, John Carpenter's Tales of Science Fiction presents Pause. It's a story/comic book that lived up to its name, as it was on hold for quite a while before finally finding a home at Storm King Comics. The episode ends with one final call for guests for the upcoming WonderCon episode & a call for panel submissions for The Geek Speak Expo, as three panel spots have opened back up.
This week, it's this month's Issues of the Day episode. Henry & Shanclen talk about Captain America: Brave New World. Not whether it was a good movie or not, but why did most of the comic book & movie influencers and review sites call this another bad Marvel movie....yet audiences genuinley enjoyed it after opening weekend? Could it be that review sites & influencers are still stuck in the "let's hate everything Marvel" cycle? Also, after a few yes, it's happening...no, it's not stories, Henry & Shanclen can finally confirm that yes, The Goonies sequel is in the works. But do we need (want?) a Goonies sequel? As you'll hear Henry point out, there is one sure-fire way to ensure it's a success.
