We thought we’d jump back on mic and talk through the weirdness of 2023, our first year since COVID that we didn’t put out a podcast every week. Luke thinks 2023 feels weird because millennials are no longer relevant. Ryan thinks 2023 feels weird because the internet has reverted back to what it was like in 2010. Maybe both theories are correct! Or maybe it was some other third reason. Either way, we spend a lot of time arguing about TikTok. This is a public episode. It's our last episode of the year and we bring the chaos as we try to catch up on everything we couldn't talk about during the SAG strike and immediately get derailed. We gush over TV shows, learn some bug facts, and go full tang. Follow us on Tumblr at dashboarddiaries.tumblr.com to see the posts we talk about on this episode or email us at dashboarddiariespod@gmail.com! Dashboard Diaries is a production of Atypical Artists, hosted by Lauren Shippen and Cher McAnelly. Our theme was composed by Lauren Shippen and mixed by Brandon Grugle. Art by Shae McMullin. Transcription (which can be found on our Tumblr) by Laudable.
Stacy, Chanel, and Ashley discuss the first part of Keep it Steady, Eddie. Written by the talented Outofmygourd. This is Stacy's FAVORITE fanfic pairing and we are so excited to jump in to this love story! Story link below:https://archiveofourown.org/works/39492981/chapters/98846169Summary: Eddie Munson doesn't mind working at the Family Video Store. It's a nice sense of normalcy (not to mention money) and he gets to see Robin more because of it. However, between working together and sharing the same best friend, he's also been seeing a lot more of Steve Harrington. He wants nothing more than to enjoy mindless fun with his friends now that everything with Vecna is over, but Eddie's finding it hard to move on from what happened. Even if the strangest thing in his life right now was simply the fact he and Steve Harrington might actually be friends.
This was a longer than expected fic that i thoroughly enjoyed, and is going to be a joy to dramatically cover later. read it, or other parts in the series, here!

In this episode, Jo (@pebblysand) and Lani (@copper-dust) discuss the topic of building a writing style. They explore the question of whether fanfictions writers should strive to imitate established styles - like that of the author of the source work - or embrace their own unique style. They also touch on the relationship between their writing styles and their natural speaking voices, and Jo explains why she personally prefers a casual storytelling approach. They reflect on what they would like to change about their own styles and share their influences, including original fic writers and specific fanfiction authors. They also answer two listener questions: one about creating different styles for individual stories, and another about the balance between appreciating other people’s styles and finding one's own voice. This week, we mention:
