Divination as a means of self-knowledge
March 28, 2025 · 19 min

In this experimental radio project, our group seeks to explore means of divination by combining traditional Chinese fortune-telling methods and Western Tarot reading methods. The Chinese method reflects a rich history and philosophical depth, by using ancient chinese symbols written on small circular pieces of wood tokens that are thrown and then associated with a specific passage and poem written in Ancient Chinese. Meanwhile the Tarot represents a global perspective of the practices of divination. To explore these methods, our group created a protocol, which is the following:

1) One person (Yuwen, Haoran,Mingwang or Omari) asks a question of their choice;

2) One person (Rouyu) acts as the Diviner, conducting the reading of cards or tokens;

3) Once the reading is done, others from the group may give their own perspectives of what the result may be.
